About Us
How Does LongRun Work?
Through fundraising and volunteer work, as well as assistance from the Ontario thoroughbred industry, LongRun evaluates retired racehorses and attempts to provide any needed care and fostering they might require. Funds raised by LongRun are used for basic care, feed, veterinary supplies, shipping and blacksmith services as well as blankets, halters and other stable equipment. We encourage owners and trainers to take responsibility for those racehorses no longer able to compete by continuing to care for them until LongRun is able to assist. LongRun does not have a permanent facility for retired racehorses. It relies on temporary foster homes or immediate placement. Because LongRun has limited funds, manpower and stall space, it can only accept a specific number of horses into the program at any one time. Some potential adoptees may be put on a waiting list.
